Our long term goal is to create a safe and supportive family setting in which
children will thrive. As the first step toward this, the Centre staff works hard
to offer our clients an informal, welcoming environment.
The Centre's approach begins with an understanding that healing extends beyond
abuse identification and investigation. Our ultimate goal is to both treat and to
assist in the prevention child abuse.
Our clients range in age from five (5) to seventeen (17) years and have been
referred by children’s mental health agencies, parents, schools, Police services
and Children's Aid Society (CAS). We even have had self-referrals. With all
referrals, an assessment is carried out to determine the emotional impact of
abuse on the child and to determine whether active intervention is required.
Clients are informed that we are obliged, by law, to report any incident
involving abuse or neglect to the Children’s Aid Society.
Once the assessment is completed, the types of services we offer are outlined,
the goals we wish to achieve are identified, and a treatment plan is developed.
The average treatment period is six months and it is important to note: there is
NO FEE. What’s more, The Centre will also coordinate services with other involved
agencies and we take special care to respect the language and cultural needs of
our clients.
