The Children’s Treatment Centre is a community based, community supported agency committed to the prevention and
treatment of child abuse. We provide free and immediate assessment and treatment to any child in need and that child’s family.
The Centre is a unique agency. It is entirely funded by the community it serves and receives no government funding.
As such, it is able to channel the bulk of its resources towards those who need it the most - the children.
The Centre is available at the time children need it. As a community supported agency, there is no need for professional referrals
or lengthy waiting periods. It is staffed by a team of professional psychologists, psychiatrists and counsellors who are highly
skilled in the assessment and treatment of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
Why We Exist
Child abuse is a longstanding and serious social problem in Canada, the United
States and countries around the world. It is a problem that exists in Ontario and
across the Cornwall / United Counties region. The impact on children is usually
traumatic and too often impairs the child’s ability to grow and to cope with life
in a healthy and well adjusted manner.
Many provincial sources for treatment of children have eroded because of
shrinking government funding. The Children’s Treatment Centre was established in
response to this serious and damaging problem. Its goal is to assist families
and individuals in creating a safe and supportive environment in which children
can overcome the trauma of abuse and thrive.
